2013 CAPERS
The 60th Annual Cave Capers will be June 28, 29, 30th 2013. The 60 year anniversary of Capers returns to the Crawford County Fairgrounds (the site of the 2007 NSS Convention!). We will feature a Friday night Jam session, lots of great caves, led cave trips, and caving vendor Inner Mountain Outfitters. Saturday night will feature a cook out, door prizes, and our speaker will be Bill Steele, presenting “50 years of Caving”. Bill began caving in Indiana while attending IU.
Registration opens at noon Friday (please don't arrive before noon). The campground has lots of comfortable tent camping along with separate quiet and noisy areas. Shop for gear all weekend from our featured Cave Vendor: Inner Mountain Outfitters.
Friday night, socialize and enjoy the 3rd annual Friday Night Campground Party with Ranoldo's open jam session and with snacks, cast iron, fire-cooked desserts, and drinks provided by the Shallow Grotto. Bring your guitars (can be electric) and other instruments, we will have a full band setup.
Saturday morning the camp will be serving breakfast (and Sunday too!). The breakfast will feature items such as biscuits & gravy, breaskfast plate (egg, bacon, and home fries), muffins, cimnamon rolls, different kinds of breakfast sandwiches, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, etc. The prices will range from $1.00 to $5.00. For caving we will offer volunteer-led cave trips and "go on your own with directions" excursions to some of Indiana's finest caves. For non-cavers, there is Historic Corydon, plenty of hiking on the Hoosier National Forest, Commercial Caves, the Blue River and Ohio River, and many Wineries. Louisville is only 30 minutes away too!
Saturday evening will feature an on-site meal for the banquet. More details will be coming. Our entertainment for the evening will start off with the first round of door prizes, followed by our speaker, Mr. Bill Steele who will present: "50 years of Caving". Following the presentation will be the grand finale drawing for the door prizes, and then a DJ will spin music at the Shallow Shelter.
Other details, Quiet camping a party camping areas will be clearly defined (and will not be next to each other, duh...) The campground will be selling ICE for a dollar a bag. The Blue River or your favorite spring will act as this year's swiming pool. RV's are welecome and there are a limited number of hook-ups, water and electric. No fireworks, unapproved public address systems, mini bikes or ATV's. Pets are allowed this year. All dogs and cats must be kept on a leash at all times!
